Ports use category/name directories. Every ordinary port contains a Makefile, distinfo, and pkg-plist; optional patches and service files live under files.

Every port ends its Makefile with:

BUILD_DEPENDS and RUN_DEPENDS entries use package-name:category/port. Build dependencies are installed before configuration but are not recorded as runtime dependencies in the finished package. The framework and dependency resolver always recurse through /usr/local/bin/bmake; a port may invoke GNU make explicitly when its upstream build requires it. BUILD_STYLE supplies narrow defaults for Meson, CMake, GNU-configure and GNU-make projects, while recipes retain explicit source, dependency, option and packing-list declarations. Test-only recipes do not belong here.
