Dissent, or die trying!

BIG CHEESE is the home of projects related to MOUSE, the Monolithic Opinionated Unix-like System Environment: a statically linked, A/B-rooted base you can understand in an afternoon and extend as far as you please. Its semantics are BSD-shaped; its implementation is strictly Linux.

MOUSE is a source-based, Linux operating system, borrowing concepts from many others that came before it:

• Coherent, versioned World releases, à la FreeBSD
• A statically linked World, à la Dérive
• A system you can understand in an afternoon, à la Dérive
• A strict separation between World and Ports, à la FreeBSD, NetBSD, et al
• A/B root deployments, à la VanillaOS, SteamOS, et al.
• Musl LibC, à la Alpine Linux, et al.
• rc.subr-derived service definitions, supervised through cgroups using our own PID1, cheesed, à la NetBSD, MOUSE, et al.

MOUSE is probably worse than every project above at the thing it borrowed. Fortunately, none of them are trying to build MOUSE.
